REGAL PRIVET

Ligustrum obtusifolium 'Regal' is commonly referred to as Border Privet or Regal Privet. It is a fast growing, long-lived, evergreen shrub that features fragrant, white panicle blooms that appear in early summer. It has a spreading habit with dark green, pointy leaves that turn deep purple in fall.

Regal Privet is easy to grow, takes to pruning exceptionally well, and can thrive in city environments with zero fuss. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, enjoys both dry and moist conditions, and is not particular to soil type. It is ideal as a hedge plant. It can be sheared to fit almost any shape!

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil, selecting a location that receives full sun to partial shade for the best density and foliage color. These shrubs are highly adaptable to various soil conditions and exhibit excellent drought tolerance once established, requiring supplemental water primarily during the first season to ensure success. Prune as needed throughout the growing season, as these plants are extremely tolerant of shearing and respond well to heavy trimming to maintain hedges or formal shapes. If you prefer a more natural habit, prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood and encourage vigorous new growth.
