Wholesale Nursery Sales Yard Manager - Galena

Summary:
Acorn Farms’ sales yard is a horticultural distribution center serving the landscape, garden center, and construction industries in Central Ohio. We carry a vast array of products including annuals, perennials, shrubs, container and balled and burlapped trees. We also carry hardgoods including tools and landscape supplies, bulk and bagged mulches and aggregates, pavers, and decorative stone and boulders. We are searching for a talented manager to oversee the day-to-day operations and help plan for growth and continued success in the future. Ensuring a high level of customer service and maintaining the appearance of the sales yard are the primary objectives of this role. This is a full time, year-round position. There will be overtime, and weekends will be required as needed during peak seasons.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee, manage, and coach the sales team, ensuring customer needs are met and employees have the resources needed to perform at a high level.
- Oversee and manage the crews maintaining the plant material and appearance of the yard, assigning tasks as required.
- Manage plant health care including irrigation, identifying needs for pest control, fertilization, spacing, pruning, as needed.
- Manage the inventory of the sales yard, identifying where restocking is required, ensuring satisfactory inventory levels are maintained.
- Work closely with the green goods buyer and manage the receiving of purchased plant material, communicating any related issues or needs, as well as managing the paperwork of received plant material.
- Maintain professional communication with various departments and management.
- Assist customers and help fulfill orders as needed.
- Maintain positive and professional communication between sales yard staff and sales office staff.
- Other managerial duties such as approving payroll for sales yard staff and ordering supplies and materials as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of management or supervisory experience with oversight of staff in a green industry business.
- A horticultural background with knowledge of plant material is required.
- The ability to work full-time and weekends is required in peak seasons.
- Equipment operating experience on skid steers, forklifts, and tractors is required.
- The ability to perform physical work, lifting, bending, loading, and standing for long periods of time in various weather conditions.
- Bilingual with proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Experience with computers including Microsoft products is required.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position. There will be overtime, and weekends will be required as needed during peak seasons.
Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with experience. We believe in providing a surplus of opportunity and areas to grow. Bilingual with proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required. EOE
