SWEETY GOLDENROD
Solidago 'Sweety' is a true breakthrough in Goldenrod breeding, offering an incredibly compact and tidy habit that is a far cry from its taller, wilder relatives. This dwarf cultivar forms a dense, rounded mound of bright green foliage that reaches a mature height of only 12 - 15 inches. In late summer and throughout autumn, it is completely smothered in a "carpet" of tiny, lemon-yellow flower spikes, providing a luminous burst of color just as many other perennials are beginning to fade. Its petite stature and high flower-to-foliage ratio make it an ideal candidate for the front of a sunny border, rock gardens, or as a vibrant "filler" in autumn-themed patio containers.
To keep Solidago 'Sweety' performing at its peak, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. It is exceptionally hardy and drought-tolerant once established and remarkably resistant to the powdery mildew that can sometimes affect other Goldenrod species. Maintenance is minimal; simply cut it back to the ground in late autumn or early spring to make way for fresh new growth. Despite its small size, it remains a high-value nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators during the late season.
