BLUE-EYED GRASS

Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Lucerne' is a charming and versatile perennial that combines the delicate look of an ornamental grass with the bright, cheery blooms of a wildflower. Commonly known as Blue-Eyed Grass, this cultivar forms a tidy, upright tuft of narrow, sword-shaped foliage that reaches a mature height of 9 - 12 inches. In late spring and early summer, it is covered in a profusion of star-shaped, deep violet-blue flowers, each featuring a distinct yellow "eye" at the center. Despite its dainty appearance, 'Lucerne' is a robust performer that provides a refined, grassy texture to the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges.

To keep Blue-Eyed Grass thriving, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. While it is quite adaptable, it performs best in moist, well-drained soil and should not be allowed to dry out completely during the heat of summer. Maintenance is minimal; once the main blooming period has ended, you can lightly shear the foliage to keep the tufts looking neat and fresh for the remainder of the season.
