PLUM CRAZY PURPLE SAGE

Salvia guaranitica 'Plum Crazy' is a striking, high-impact Salvia (often grown as an annual in cooler regions) that stands much taller than its nemorosa cousins, typically reaching heights of 36-48 inches. It is distinguished by its vibrant magenta or deep burgundy tubular flowers set against dark, nearly black calyxes, creating a dramatic color contrast. The foliage is deep green, slightly textured, and emits a mild fragrance when bruised. Because of its height and open, bushy habit, 'Plum Crazy' serves as an excellent "thriller" for large containers or a focal point in the back of a landscape border, where it is a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies from late spring until the first frost.

For successful care, 'Plum Crazy' requires a location in full sun with well-drained soil, though it can tolerate light afternoon shade in exceptionally hot climates. It is notably heat and drought tolerant once established, but it performs best with regular watering.
