SUMMER GLOW ORNAMENTAL BIRD CHERRY
This European birdcherry is a deciduous ornamental cherry tree that has emerging green leaves that turn red-purple through the summer, maturing to reddish-purple. Showy racemes of fragrant white flowers are held in pendulous clusters with the emerging foliage. The flowers are followed by black cherries that resemble chokecherries which ripen in midsummer. The birds love them, but they are too bitter for us humans. Smooth brown bark adds yet another interesting element.
