Zone: 4EARLY START™ PINK DARK EYE GARDEN PHLOX
Phlox paniculata Early Start Pink Dark Eye™ is a premier selection from the Early Start™ series, specifically bred to bloom two to three weeks earlier than traditional garden phlox. It produces dense, rounded clusters of soft pink flowers, each centered with a contrasting deep rosy-red eye that draws the eye inward. Reaching a modest height of only 9 to 12 inches, it maintains a tidy, mounded habit with exceptionally dark green, mildew-resistant foliage, making it a perfect choice for bringing sweet fragrance and early summer color to the front of a garden border.
To ensure Early Start Pink Dark Eye™ performs its best, it should be planted in a sunny spot that receives at least six hours of direct light, which helps maintain its sturdy stems and vibrant bicolor blooms. It thrives in rich, consistently moist, and well-drained soil; adding a light layer of compost or organic mulch will help keep its roots cool during the heat of midsummer. Because of its early blooming nature and compact size, it is an ideal candidate for mixed containers or small urban gardens where space is at a premium. Promptly deadheading the spent flower spikes will keep the plant looking fresh and may encourage a secondary flush of blooms later in the season.
