PEEK A BLUE RUSSIAN SAGE
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Peek-a-Blue' is a standout dwarf Russian Sage known for its exceptionally lacy, fine-textured appearance and early blooming window. It forms a compact, sturdy mound of deeply cut silvery-green foliage that looks almost like a delicate filigree in the garden. Starting in mid-summer, the plant is topped with abundant spikes of lavender-blue flowers held in dark purple calyxes, creating a "peeking" effect of bright color against the frosted, airy leaves.
Reaching a mature height of just 18 to 24 inches, 'Peek-a-Blue' is an ideal choice for the front or middle of a sunny border where space is at a premium. It is incredibly heat, drought, and salt tolerant, thriving in lean, sharply drained soil and full sun; in fact, its stems stay much stiffer and more upright when grown in "tough" conditions rather than rich soil. Hardy in USDA zones 4-9, it is virtually deer and rabbit resistant due to its aromatic oils, making it a reliable, low-maintenance workhorse for providing cool, hazy color all season long.
