Zone: 5MANGO POPSICLE™ RED HOT POKER
Kniphofia 'Mango Popsicle' is more commonly known as Mango Popsicle™ Red Hot Poker. It features a dwarf habit, only growing to 18-24 inches tall and 12-18 inches wide. It boasts brilliant, single-color spikes of mango-orange that bloom profusely and continuously from early summer well into fall. Part of the popular Popsicle™ series, it is a compact and re-blooming variety, with flower scapes reaching about 2-3 feet tall above a tidy, grass-like clump of deep green foliage. Its long bloom season and resistance to deer and rabbits make it a stunning and low-maintenance choice for adding vertical accent and tropical color to sunny borders, rock gardens, or mixed container plantings. The tubular flowers are an absolute magnet for hummingbirds, adding lively activity to the garden landscape.
Mango Popsicle™ Red Hot Poker thrives in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sun daily) and requires well-drained soil. Kniphofia are highly intolerant of heavy, wet soil, especially in winter, which can easily cause the crown to rot. Deadheading spent flower spikes down to the base throughout the summer is crucial for promoting its excellent re-blooming habit.
