OCEAN SUNSET™ ORANGE GLOW ICE PLANT

Delosperma Ocean Sunset™ Orange Glow, a standout introduction from the high-performing Ocean Sunset™ series, is a vigorous, low-growing succulent perennial that functions as a spectacular, high-impact groundcover for sunny spots. It is celebrated for its exceptionally large, daisy-like blossoms that boast a brilliant, high-voltage orange hue with a contrasting pale center. Blooming prolifically from late spring all the way until the first hard frost, the flowers blanket a dense, mat-forming carpet of fleshy, needle-like, jelly-bean-shaped foliage. Reaching a modest height of just 3 to 6 inches while spreading up to 12-18 inches wide, its low profile and intense color palette make it a premier choice for adding a vivid pop to rock gardens, retaining walls, alpine troughs, or the parched edges of sunny border paths.

To keep 'Orange Glow' thriving and covered in blooms, the absolute ideal spot is a location in full sun that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily, as the flowers require bright light to open fully each day. It demands exceptionally well-draining, lean, or gravelly soil; heavy, moisture-retentive clay is its primary enemy, especially during the cold winter months when damp roots will quickly trigger crown rot. It is remarkably heat-tolerant and drought-resistant once established, requiring only minimal supplemental watering during prolonged dry spells.

Planting Tips

To help Delosperma settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant Delosperma in lean, sharply well-draining soil - sandy or gravelly sites are ideal. Delosperma is a succulent that requires full sun and excellent air circulation; it does not tolerate heavy, wet soil, especially during winter months, as it is highly prone to crown and root rot. Water sparingly once established; avoid overwatering and heavy mulching, as these will lead to plant failure. No deadheading is necessary to maintain its continuous flower show, and fertilizer should be applied sparingly - a single light application of a balanced, low-nitrogen formula in spring is plenty to fuel its growth without causing the succulent foliage to become soft or split.
