EVERCOLOR® EVEREST JAPANESE SEDGE GRASS
Carex oshimensis 'Everest', a standout member of the Evercolor® series, is an award-winning ornamental sedge celebrated for its crisp, snowy-white variegation. It forms a neat, arching mound that typically reaches 12 to 18 inches in height and 12-15 inches in width, making it a perfect choice for adding a cool, bright accent to dark garden corners. Its narrow, leathery blades feature a deep green center framed by bold, pure white margins, creating a high-contrast "fountain" effect. Because of its compact and tidy habit, 'Everest' is exceptionally well-suited for decorative containers, window boxes, or as a sophisticated edging plant along shaded garden pathways.
Caring for 'Everest' is incredibly simple, as it is a resilient and low-maintenance plant that thrives in partial to full shade. While it can tolerate a bit of morning sun in cooler climates, intense afternoon heat can scorch the white edges of its foliage, so a sheltered spot is ideal. It performs best in moist, well-drained soil and should not be allowed to dry out completely, though it is quite adaptable once established. Because this sedge is evergreen, you should avoid cutting the entire clump back to the ground in the spring; instead, simply "comb" through the foliage with your fingers or a small rake to remove any brown or winter-damaged blades to keep the mound looking fresh and vibrant for the new growing season.
