Zone: 4MOP TOP® FOUNTAIN BUTTERFLY BUSH
Buddleia Mop Top® is a total game-changer if you are working with limited garden real estate. Unlike its towering cousins that can easily take over a fence line, this dwarf variety stays impressively compact, typically forming a dense, rounded mound that tops out at just 3-4 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide. It earns its name from its unique, globe-like clusters of lavender-purple flowers that crown the silvery foliage like a series of pom-poms. It provides intense pollinator power and a sweet fragrance of a standard butterfly bush but in a tidy, manageable package.
Mop Top® is the ideal candidate for large patio containers or the front edge of a sunny garden border. Because of its petite stature, it won't shade out its neighbors, making it perfect for small urban gardens or "step-over" hedges. It thrives in a bright, full-sun spot with soil that drains quickly. It is quite drought-tolerant once established but will struggle in soggy ground. It benefits from deadheading the spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the summer and give it a light shaping in early spring to keep its signature rounded form.
