Zone: 3COMPACT EUROPEAN CRANBERRYBUSH
Viburnum opulus 'Compactum' is commonly referred to as European Highbush Cranberry or Compact European Cranberrybush. It is a compact, rounded, dense, deciduous shrub which features deep green, maple-like leaves that mature to showy shades of purple and pink in fall. Lacecap-type pure white flowers appear in May and are followed by showy bright red berries from early fall through winter. Smooth gray bark and gold branches add additional winter interest.
Compact European Cranberrybush is a great choice for inviting pollinators and songbirds to the area. It thrives in full to partial sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It prefers loamy moist soils and can adapt well near boggy, low-lying areas. It should not be left to dry out. Any pruning should be immediately after flowering to best avoid cutting any of next year's flower buds. Ideal for mass plantings, hedges, screenings and general landscape use.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune sparingly and only immediately after flowering to maintain shape; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the flower buds for the coming season.
