WATERPERRY BLUE VERONICA
Veronica 'Waterperry Blue' is an enchanting, low-growing, mat-forming perennial that is widely celebrated for its ability to create a lush, weed-suppressing carpet. It typically reaches only 3 to 6 inches in height, with small, round leaves that often take on a lovely bronze or reddish tint in the cooler temperatures of spring and autumn. In late spring to early summer, its foliage is almost completely obscured by a profusion of delicate, lavender-blue flowers, each with a bright white eye. Because of its vigorous but non-aggressive spread, it is a premier choice for rock gardens, steppingstone crevices, or as a softening ground cover for the edges of perennial borders.
Veronica 'Waterperry Blue' thrives in full sun, as it needs abundant light to maintain its tight, mat-like growth and prevent it from becoming leggy. Unlike the taller border varieties, 'Waterperry Blue' enjoys leaner, grittier soil profile; it is essential to ensure exceptional drainage, as it is highly susceptible to crown rot in heavy or damp conditions.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Position the plant in a location with full sun, as these low growing varieties need abundant light to prevent the centers from thinning or opening up. Ensure the soil is exceptionally well draining, as these mat forming species prefer a leaner, grittier environment, and consider incorporating sand or pea gravel if your native soil is heavy. Water moderately to help the plant establish, but avoid persistent wetness, which can lead to crown rot. Rather than using thick organic bark mulch, which can retain too much moisture against the delicate foliage, consider using a layer of pea gravel or stone around the plant to keep the stems dry. Avoid mounding any mulch against the plant itself, and keep fertilizers light or omit them entirely, as these species often thrive in slightly less fertile conditions than their taller, more vigorous counterparts.
