Zone: 4ELITE STAR PJM RHODODENDRON
Rhododendron 'P.J.M. Elite Star' is commonly referred to as PJM Elite Star Rhododendron. It is a hardy, densely compact, evergreen shrub that features clusters of large, ruffled, soft lavender flowers with a bright purple-pink edge. This particular variety seems to glow in the shade! Its long lasting color blooms a couple weeks after other Rhododendrons have become spent. PJM hybrids are one of the hardiest Rhododendrons, thriving in climates such as the Upper Midwest and New England areas; and 'PJM Elite Star' is likely the most tolerant Rhody for cold conditions.
PJM Elite Star Rhododendrons thrive in full sun to partial shade in rich, fertile, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate standing water. It is ideal for shrub borders, hedges and foundation plantings.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in rich, moist, acidic, and well-draining soil, selecting a location that provides partial shade or filtered light to protect the foliage from harsh, direct sun. These shallow-rooted shrubs require consistent moisture to remain healthy, especially during the first growing season until they are fully established. Prune immediately after the flowering period concludes, as new buds for the next year are set shortly after blossoms fade; removing spent blooms and light tip-pruning encourages a fuller, more vigorous habit. Apply a generous layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, ensuring the material remains a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
