GOLDEN LIGHTS DECIDUOUS AZALEA

Azalea exbury 'Golden Lights' is commonly referred to as Golden Lights Azalea or Golden Lights Rhododendron. It belongs to the Northern Lights Hybrid Series from the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. It is an exceptionally hardy deciduous variety featuring fragrant, single golden-yellow flowers that appear in late spring that attracts birds, butterflies, hummingbirds and other beneficial pollinators. It has a small mounding habit with bright green leaves.

Golden Lights Azalea thrives in full to partial sun in rich, humusy, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Full morning sun is beneficial for azaleas. It is ideal for shrub borders, flowering hedge and foundation plantings.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in full sun to partial shade - this type is significantly more sun-tolerant than evergreen azaleas. Ensure soil is acidic, well-draining, and rich in organic matter. Plant shallow - the top of the root ball should sit 1 to 2 inches above the surrounding soil level; never bury the crown. Keep soil consistently moist, especially during the first two growing seasons. Mulching: Apply 2 to 3 inches of pine needles or bark, keeping it away from the main stem. Note: This plant is deciduous; it will drop its leaves in late autumn. This is a natural dormant phase, not a sign of illness.
