COLUMNAR NORWAY MAPLE

Acer platanoides 'Columnare' is commonly referred to as Columnar Norway Maple. This large, tall, hardy deciduous tree has stout ascending branches and a narrow, very columnar habit. It grows 30-40 feet tall with a spread of just 15 feet. It is perfect for foundation plantings or to line a sidewalk. Its lobed leaves are deep green in spring maturing to bright yellow in fall.

Columnar Norway Maple should only be grown in full sunlight. It thrives in average, evenly moist, well-draining soils. It is highly tolerant of urban pollination and does well in city environments.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Select a site with full sun to partial shade, ensuring the location is at least four to six feet away from sidewalks to accommodate its shallow, spreading root system. Dig a hole two to three times the width of the root ball and set the tree so the root flare is level with or slightly above the soil surface to prevent future girdling roots. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly to settle the roots, and apply a 3-inch layer of mulch while keeping it clear of the trunk to protect the bark.
