LAVANDULA PHENOMENAL
Grower Notes:
Lavandula × intermedia 'Phenomenal' (Phenomenal Lavender) is a very popular and award-winning Lavandin hybrid, celebrated for its superior resilience and extended bloom time, making it an excellent choice for gardeners in challenging climates. This vigorous hybrid of English and Portuguese lavender offers a powerful combination of both types: it boasts exceptional cold hardiness down to USDA Zone 5, while also exhibiting superior tolerance for the hot, humid summers that often prove fatal to other lavenders. It forms a dense, mounded habit, typically reaching 2–3 feet in height and spread, and is covered from late spring through early fall with long, sturdy spikes of intensely fragrant, violet-blue flowers. Its aromatic, silvery-green foliage is also highly ornamental, providing year-round visual appeal and natural resistance to deer and rabbits.
'Phenomenal' Lavender requires full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) and, most importantly, perfectly well-drained, lean, or sandy soil; it will not tolerate wet or soggy conditions. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and requires minimal water or fertilizer.
