  • RUDBECKIA TRILOBA
NATIVE BROWNEYED SUSAN -

3-4 Feet Tall 18-24 Inches Wide--

Rudbeckia triloba, commonly known as the Brown-Eyed Susan or Three-Lobed Coneflower, is a vigorous and charming North American native celebrated for its sheer volume of blooms. This species is easily distinguished by its smaller, more numerous flowers compared to the common Black-Eyed Susan, and its unique foliage - the lower leaves are typically divided into three distinct lobes. Reaching a mature height of 3 to 4 feet, it develops a bushy, highly branched habit that becomes completely smothered in 1 to 2-inch wide, bright yellow flowers with dark, button-like chocolate centers. Its airy structure and late-season peak make it an essential component for naturalized meadows, cottage gardens, and native pollinator habitats.

For the best results, Rudbeckia triloba should be planted in full sun to part shade, making it one of the more versatile members of the genus in terms of light requirements. It thrives in average, well-drained soil and is notably adaptable to various conditions, including periods of drought once its root system is established. While it is technically a short-lived perennial or biennial, it is an excellent self-seeder, often maintaining its presence in the garden for years by dropping seeds in the autumn.
