Athyrium niponicum 'Crested Surf' is a standout cultivar of the Japanese Painted Fern that brings a unique, ruffled texture to the shade garden. While it retains the classic silvery-grey foliage and contrasting dark purple midribs of its parentage, it is distinguished by its "crested" tips. Each frond and pinna ends in a decorative, split fringe that gives the plant a much fuller, more voluminous appearance than traditional varieties.
