PACHYSANDRA -
6-9 Inches Tall 12-18 Inches Wide--
Pachysandra terminalis is a classic, evergreen subshrub that serves as an indispensable groundcover for shaded landscapes. Often referred to as Japanese Spurge, it spreads via underground rhizomes to form a thick, uniform carpet of glossy, leathery green leaves. Its foliage is arranged in attractive whorls at the ends of the stems, creating a textured look that stays green throughout the entire year. In early spring, it produces small, upright spikes of fragrant white flowers, though it is primarily grown for its reliable performance and ability to thrive in areas where turfgrass often fails.
The ideal spot for Pachysandra is in partial to full shade, making it a perfect solution for the soil underneath large canopy trees or along the north side of a building. It prefers moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic. While it is relatively tough once established, it should be protected from the harsh afternoon sun, which can cause the leaves to yellow or scorch.
