Iris ger. 'Savannah Sunset' (Savannah Sunset Bearded Iris) is a beautiful Tall Bearded Iris celebrated for its exceptionally vibrant and intense orange color. It features ruffled petals in a glowing orange hue, often described as a self-color (meaning all petals are the same color), complemented by prominent tangerine-orange beards. A standout feature of 'Savannah Sunset' is the remarkable colorfastness of its blooms, which resist fading even in hot climates. Standing at an impressive height of 36 to 42 inches, it produces tall, sturdy stems that are heavily budded, resulting in a long bloom period of up to three full weeks in late spring to early summer. It is a vigorous grower, offering upright, sword-like foliage that adds a strong vertical element to garden beds and borders.

'Savannah Sunset' Bearded Iris' primary requirement is excellent drainage, as its rhizomes are prone to rot in soggy soil; planting in a sandy loam or a slightly raised bed is ideal. It performs best in full sun, meaning at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. When planting the rhizome, ensure the top is exposed or just barely covered by soil. Once established, this iris is remarkably drought-tolerant, only requiring supplemental water during prolonged dry spells. After the blooms fade, the flower stems should be cut down to the base, and in late fall, the foliage should be cut back to six-inch fans to help control iris borers and promote overall plant health.
