PINKERTON JAPANESE IRIS -
30-36 Inches Tall 24-30 Inches Wide--
Iris ensata 'Pinkerton' is a beautiful Japanese Iris celebrated for its delicate, soft pink coloration and notably large, flat-profile blooms that can reach up to 7 inches wide, making them some of the biggest flowers in the iris family. These majestic, orchid-like flowers emerge in early to mid-summer on tall, upright stems that rise to about 3 feet above the narrow, sword-shaped, green foliage. Each ruffled petal, or 'fall,' is beautifully accented with fine, dark pink or rosy veining radiating from a small, bright yellow signal at the throat, creating an elegant, luminous effect. Its refined color and dramatic size make 'Pinkerton' an exceptional choice for adding vertical interest, romantic charm, and a splash of late-season color to cottage gardens, mixed perennial borders, and especially water-adjacent landscapes.
As a member of the Iris ensata group, 'Pinkerton' is a "water iris" that thrives in full sun and requires consistent, ample moisture throughout the growing season, a requirement much higher than that of Bearded or Siberian Irises. It performs best in a fertile, organically rich, and acidic soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 6.5, making it a good fit for bog gardens or planting along the margins of a pond or stream where the soil remains reliably moist but not waterlogged in winter.
