PAULA FAY PEONY -

Paeonia 'Paula Fay' is a radiant, early-season herbaceous hybrid that is often described as the "pink workhorse" of the peony world. This award-winner (APS Gold Medal, 1988) features luminous, semi-double blooms in a shocking, almost fluorescent pink with five rows of waxy, ruffled petals surrounding a vibrant cluster of golden-yellow stamens. Reaching a height of 30 to 36 inches, it forms a very tidy, upright mound of dark green foliage that remains attractive throughout the season and is notably more resistant to common peony diseases than many other hybrids.
One of the standout qualities of 'Paula Fay' is its exceptional stem strength; despite the large, 6-to-8-inch blossoms, it rarely requires staking and holds its flowers upright even after a spring rain. To keep its neon-pink color from fading, it performs best in full sun but can handle a bit of afternoon shade in warmer climates. While it is described as having a light, sweet fragrance, its primary appeal lies in its early bloom time and its "carrying power", the color is so intense it can be seen from across the largest garden.
