SCOTTIE COLORADO BLUE SPRUCE -
4-5 Feet Tall 3 Feet Wide--
Picea pungens 'Scottie' is a slow-growing, dwarf selection of the Colorado Blue Spruce that forms a neat, dense, broadly conical shape. It features stiff, strikingly intense powder-blue needles that maintain their vivid color throughout all four seasons without fading. Growing at a rate of only 2 to 4 inches per year, it reaches a mature size of roughly 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide after ten years, making it an outstanding choice for small-space landscapes, rock gardens, or low-maintenance evergreen accent beds where space is limited.
'Scottie' Colorado Blue Spruce thrives in a location that receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily), which promotes its brightest blue foliage color and keeps its branching structure tight and compact. It prefers average, well-draining soil and once established, displays good drought tolerance. Avoid planting in poorly drained or wet soils, as standing moisture can lead to root issues. Its ideal spot in the landscape is as a dramatic architectural accent, framed in a rock garden, or anchored at the corner of a sunny foundation bed where its blue-green color provides year-round contrast against surrounding green foliage.
