2-3 Feet Tall 3-4 Feet Wide--
Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Zeblid' Scarletta® is commonly known as Scarletta® Drooping Leucothoe. It is a slow-growing, multi-stemmed, broadleaf evergreen shrub with arching branches and drooping spikes of waxy, urn-shaped, creamy white flowers that droop from its leaf axils in spring. Shiny, leathery, green leaves emerge scarlet-purple in spring and turn reddish brown in fall. It is more compact than other cultivars and in 10 years can grow to only 3 feet tall and wide.
Scarletta® Leucothoe thrives in part shade in organically rich, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained loamy soils. It does not tolerate drought or windy conditions and should be protected from strong winter winds. It makes a wonderful companion for rhododendrons and ferns who also love acidic soils.
