Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Seiryu' is a unique standout among Japanese Maples, prized for being the only cultivar in the "lace-leaf" group with an upright, vase-shaped habit rather than a weeping one. Its name, which translates to 'Blue-Green Dragon,' reflects the elegant, feathery appearance of its deeply dissected foliage. In spring, its delicate leaves emerge in a bright lime green, often tinged with subtle red margins, before maturing into a lush mid-green during summer. As autumn approaches, 'Seiryu' transforms into shades of brilliant gold, orange, and deep crimson, making it a premier specimen for adding vertical texture and multi-seasonal interest to the garden.
Seiryu Japanese Maple thrives in a location with dappled sunlight or morning sun and afternoon shade, particularly in hotter climates where the delicate lace-like leaves are prone to scorching.
