PEACHIES PICK ASTER -
15-18 Inches Tall 18-24 Inches Wide--
Stokesia laevis 'Peachie's Pick' is widely regarded as one of the most reliable and attractive cultivars of Stokes' Aster. Named after its discoverer, Peachie Sauls, 'Peachie's Pick' is celebrated for its exceptionally tidy, mounding habit and its ability to remain upright without the flopping often seen in older varieties. It produces large, fringed, cornflower-like blooms in a vibrant shade of blue-lavender. While many Stokesia bloom early and fade quickly, 'Peachie's Pick' offers a more prolific and slightly later floral display, typically peaking in mid-to-late summer and providing a lush, evergreen-to-semi-evergreen basal rosette of leathery, deep green foliage throughout the year.
For optimal performance, 'Peachie's Pick' requires full sun and exceptionally well-drained soil. While it is relatively drought-tolerant once established, its primary nemesis is "wet feet" during the winter months; soggy, heavy clay can lead to crown rot, so amending the soil with organic matter or grit is highly recommended. It is a perfect candidate for the front of a perennial border, mass plantings, or even mixed containers. To prolong the blooming season and keep the plant looking sharp, deadhead spent flowers regularly. This not only encourages a potential secondary flush of blooms but also highlights the plant's architectural form.
