BENIKAZE JAPANESE FOREST GRASS -

Hakonechloa macra 'Beni-Kaze', which translates to "Red Wind" in Japanese, is a captivating deciduous grass known for its dramatic seasonal color shift. Unlike the golden or variegated varieties, 'Beni-Kaze' features lush, solid bright green blades throughout the spring and summer that form a gracefully cascading mound about 15 to 18 inches tall. As the temperatures drop in late summer and autumn, the foliage begins to develop striking streaks of deep red and burnt orange, eventually turning almost entirely crimson. This transition creates a "smoldering" effect in the shade garden, providing a rare and vivid fall display that mimics the changing colors of Japanese Maples.
Caring for 'Beni-Kaze' is straightforward, provided it is planted in a cool, sheltered environment that mimics a forest floor.
