  • PHLOX SUB EMERALD BLUE
EMERALD BLUE CREEPING PHLOX -

3-6 Inches Tall 12-18 Inches Wide--

Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue' is one of the most popular and reliable cultivars of creeping phlox, widely recognized for its dense, needle-like foliage that remains a deep, "emerald" green even throughout the winter months. In mid-to-late spring, this evergreen carpet is completely transformed by a profusion of star-shaped, lavender-blue flowers. Each delicate bloom features a tiny, darker purple eye at the center, creating a soft, cooling sea of color that is particularly effective when planted in large drifts or allowed to cascade over gray stone walls and rock garden ledges.

To ensure 'Emerald Blue' Phlox performs its best, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, which is essential for achieving the most prolific spring flowering and maintaining its tight, mossy habit. It thrives in lean, gritty, and exceptionally well-drained soil; like most creeping phlox, it prefers "tough" spots and will struggle in overly rich or soggy ground. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant and can handle the heat and salt spray common in roadside plantings or along paved walkways. After the spring bloom has faded, a light shearing of the foliage will help maintain its dense, mounded shape and encourage a fresh flush of green growth that remains attractive throughout the year.
