Lavandula angustifolia 'Sweet Romance' (Sweet Romance Lavender) is a highly popular and compact English lavender cultivar noted for its exceptionally long bloom season and early flowering, often starting in early summer and continuing into early fall. It forms a neat, mounded form with aromatic, silvery-gray-green foliage, reaching a moderate size of 15 to 18 inches tall and 12-18 inches wide, making it a versatile choice for containers, low hedges, and sunny borders. It produces dense, plump wands of rich violet-purple flowers that hold their color well and are intensely fragrant, making them ideal for fresh and dried bouquets, as well as for culinary use. It is also valued for its strong performance and resilience, including good heat and humidity tolerance compared to many other English lavenders.
'Sweet Romance' Lavender thrives in full sun and sharply draining soil. It prefers lean, poor, sandy, or gravelly conditions and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Overwatering, especially in heavy or poorly draining soil, is the main cause of plant failure, so it must be planted high with the crown slightly above the soil line. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal to no fertilizer.
