LADY FERN -
24-30 Inches Tall 24-30 Inches Wide--
Athyrium filix-femina, commonly known as the Lady Fern, is a classic fern celebrated for its soft, feathery, and highly dissected fronds. It has a graceful, upright to arching growth habit that creates a fine-textured, mounded silhouette in the landscape. Fronds emerge as lime-green fiddleheads and mature into a bright, cheerful emerald, often reaching heights of two to three feet. Because of its delicate appearance and reliable growth, it has been a staple in shade gardens for centuries, offering a lush, airy backdrop that contrasts beautifully with broad-leaved plants.
For ideal performance, Lady Fern should be placed in a spot with partial to full shade, although it is notably more sun-tolerant than many other ferns if the soil remains wet. It thrives in moist, fertile, and slightly acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. While it loves consistent moisture, it is also known for being one of the more resilient ferns, capable of handling drier conditions once its root system is well-established. To keep the plant looking its best, provide a sheltered location to protect the fragile fronds from breaking in high winds, and apply a layer of mulch to maintain a cool, damp root environment throughout the summer.
