GATSBY GAL® OAKLEAF HYDRANGEA -
5-6 Feet Tall 5-6 Feet Wide--
Hydrangea quercifolia Gatsby Gal® is part of the Proven Winners® Gatsby® series and is a standout oakleaf hydrangea cultivar known for its impressive floral display and compact, sturdy habit. Unlike some larger oakleaf varieties that can become leggy, Gatsby Gal® remains relatively manageable in size while producing an abundance of oversized, upright white flower panicles. As the season progresses, these blooms gracefully transition from a crisp white to a soft, lingering pink. The foliage is equally remarkable, featuring deeply lobed, oak-like leaves that turn a showy, deep burgundy-red in fall, providing multi-season interest in the landscape.
To keep Gatsby Gal® thriving, it should be planted in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade, though in hotter climates, afternoon shade is beneficial to prevent leaf scorch. It prefers moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and does not tolerate "wet feet" or standing water. Because it blooms on old wood, any necessary pruning should be done immediately after the flowers fade in late summer to avoid cutting off next year's buds. An ideal location would be a mixed border or a woodland garden where its unique texture and fall color can be fully appreciated.
