Syringa vulgaris 'Sensation' is commonly referred to as Sensation Lilac. This is an incredibly popular lilac! It features a unique bi-color flower effect. Its sweetly fragrant purple flowers have a white margin on the petals and are produced on large pyramidal panicles in spring. Open branches are covered with bright green, heart-shaped leaves that stay attractive through summer.
Sensation Lilac thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, humusy, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate light shade, however, best flower production is in full sun. Butterflies and hummingbirds are drawn to Sensation, but deer, not so much. When pruning, prune immediately after flowering to avoid removing next year's flower buds.
