RHUS TYPHINA LACINIATA
Grower Notes:
Rhus typhina 'Laciniata' is commonly referred to as Laceleaf Staghorn Sumac. It is bold and beautiful, native, deciduous shrub that has a wide spreading growth habit with lateral suckers that quickly establish themselves. It is especially noteworthy for its highly serrated, delicate, green leaves that create a soft, airy, almost tropical, appearance in summer. Come fall, the leaves light up in bold colors of yellow, orange and red. Its "Staghorn" common name refers to its velvety, curved branches that resemble the velvet antlers of a male deer. Towards the end of summer, the flower cones evolve into fuzzy, tightly packed, red berries that stand erect in pyramidal form. Birds cannot get enough of these berries and enjoy them throughout the winter!
Laciniata Laceleaf Staghorn Sumac thrives in full sun in average, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate standing water. It can thrive in city environments and be drought tolerate once established.
