POPULUS DEL SIOUXLAND
Grower Notes:
Populus deltoides 'Siouxland' is commonly referred to as Cottonless Cottonwood or Siouxland Poplar. This fast-growing deciduous tree is noteworthy for it NOT producing the cotton that the eastern cottonwood does, making it a much less messy selection. It features a nice pyramidal habit when young, and a more oval shape when mature. Its rust-resistant leaves are slightly larger than the eastern cottonwood. Its truck is silvery-white when young, turning dark green and deeply fissured as it matures.
Siouxland Poplar is one of the largest North American hardwood trees. It can easily reach 70 feet tall. It thrives in average, moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate occasional flooding and alkaline or clay soils. It is ideal as a shade tree with plenty of room to grow, such as a park.
