LAGERSTROEMIA TONTO
Grower Notes:
Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Tonto' is commonly referred to as Tonto Crape Myrtle. It is a semi-dwarf, multi-stemmed shrub with an upright, spreading habit. It features large clusters of long-lasting, bright magenta flowers from mid-summer through early fall. Dark green leaves turn orange-red in fall before dropping and revealing smooth, peeling, cinnamon-colored bark that adds winter interest.
Tonto Crape Myrtle is a specimen plant that is easy to grow, and is heat, drought and mildew resistant. It thrives in full sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Crape myrtles bloom on new wood and should be pruned in winter to early spring.
