JUNIPERUS HOR YOUNGSTOWN
Grower Notes:
Juniperus horizontalis 'Youngstown' is commonly referred to as Youngstown Juniper or Creeping Juniper. It is a mounding, creeping evergreen that typically grows in rocky or sandy soils on slopes, along cliffs and stream banks. It is a low groundcover that reaches about 20 inches tall and spreads by long trailing branches. Foliage is green to silver-gray during spring and summer, turning purple in winter. Fleshy seed cones (blue berries) generally mature in two years, but may be absent on cultivated plants.
Youngstown Juniper thrives in full sun in average, sandy, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate standing water. It can be drought tolerant once it is established. It is ideal for retaining walls, foundations, and rock gardens. It is ideal for erosion control.
