Ilex x meserveae 'Horstmann's Mini' is commonly referred to as Horstmann's Mini Holly. This is an extremely slow-growing broadleaf evergreen shrub that eventually grows 3-5 feet tall and wide. It features green foliage and white flowers in late spring, followed by bright red fruit. The glossy textured leaves of this blue holly are curled and twisted on purple stems.
Horstmann's Mini Holly thrives in full sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is suitable for rock gardens and trough plantings. This is a female holly that will require a male pollinator holly to help ensure fruit set. As a general rule of thumb, you should plant one male for every 3-5 female plants. Blue Prince is a good example of a male holly that will help with this.
