Ilex meserveae 'Blue Boy' PP2435 is commonly referred to as Blue Boy Meserve Holly. This easy growing, large, spreading Holly is one of the hardiest hollies out there. It features glossy, spiny blue-green evergreen foliage on purple stems. Blue Boy Holly is a male pollinator for many female, berry producing varieties, such as Blue Girl Holly.
Blue Boy Holly prefers rich, organic, evenly moist, well-drained soil that is on the acidic side. Very little pruning is needed. It is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.
It makes a great accent plant and is used for hedges and screenings. Its cut stems are beautiful for Christmas wreaths.
