Hibiscus syriacus 'Aphrodite' is commonly referred to as Aphrodite Rose of Sharon or Aphrodite Hibiscus. It is a triploid cultivar developed by the National Arboretum and features a more compact, vase-shaped habit. It is an upright shrub with pink, gently ruffled flowers with a dark red throat. Flowers bloom continuously from June to September. Leaves emerge pale yellow-green becoming medium green during the growing season.
Aphrodite Rose of Sharon is deer resistant and thrives in full to partial sun in rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Ideal for shrub borders and foundation plantings. A nice bonus of Hibiscus syriacus cultivars is the ability to manipulate them into a tree shape for a more formal architectural feature.
