HAMAMELIS VERNALIS
Grower Notes:
Hamamelis vernalis is commonly referred to as the Vernal Witch Hazel or the Ozark Witch Hazel. This tough, native, deciduous plant features yellow to red flowers that appear on bare branches in January and February that last approximately three to four weeks. Ovate, rounded leaves emerge light green with reddish-bronze tones in spring, but quickly mature to dark green. Fall brings golden yellow color.
Vernal Witch Hazel enjoys full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. It enjoys rich, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is more tolerant of high pH than Hamamelis virginiana.
