CEPHALANTHUS OCCIDENTALIS
Grower Notes:
Cephalanthus occidentalis is commonly referred to as the Common Buttonbush, Button Willow, Honey Bells or Honey Balls. It is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a rounded habit with a height of 6-7 feet and spread of 4-5 feet. It features white, tubular, fragrant flowers that appear in spherical, long-stalked flower heads in early to midsummer and are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies and other insect pollinators.
Common Buttonbush is often used in wetland restoration projects along streams, pond banks and low areas. It thrives in full to part sun in moist, humusy soils. It can grow well in wet soils including shallow standing water. It can adapt to dryer conditions.
