ASTILBE ARE ICE CREAM
Grower Notes:
Astilbe arendsii 'Ice Cream' PPAF is commonly referred to as Ice Cream Astilbe or Ice Cream False Spirea. What a luxuriant display for the shade garden! This showy herbaceous perennial features free-flowering, large fluffy bubblegum pink flower plumes on tall reddish-brown stems late in the season. Flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Dark green mounding foliage remains attractive through the summer and is pest and disease free.
Ice Cream Astilbe thrives in dappled shade in rich, organically fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal for mass plantings, rock gardens and other dappled shade areas in the garden.
Companion plants for Astilbe include: Rhododendron, Hosta, Ferns, Heuchera, Ligularia and Japanese and Siberian Iris.
