AMELANCHIER LAEVIS
Grower Notes:
The Allegheny Serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) is a beautiful, small tree/shrub that is native to the open woodland areas in Eastern North America. It is noteworthy for its showy, 5-petaled, fragrant white flower clusters that appear in April. Green leaves emerge with edible purplish-black berries that are enjoyed by birds and people. Berries are used in jams, jellies and pies. Dark green foliage turns a fantastic reddish-orange in fall. Striking smooth, gray bark adds to its winter interest. This easy to grow, 4-season selection thrives in full to part sun in evenly moist, well-drained soils.
