BORNEO GIANT ELEPHANT EAR

Alocasia macrorrhizos 'Borneo Giant' is a titan in the Alocasia world, living up to its name with massive, heart-shaped leaves that can reach lengths of 4 to 6 feet. Unlike many other Alocasia varieties that feature downward-pointing foliage, the 'Borneo Giant' holds its vibrant green, glossy leaves upright on thick, succulent stalks. This architectural growth habit allows it to form an impressive focal point in any landscape or large interior space, quickly reaching heights of 8 to 12 feet under the right conditions. Its sheer scale and prehistoric appearance bring an immediate tropical intensity to its surroundings.

To keep 'Borneo Giant' thriving, it requires a spot with bright, indirect light or dappled sunlight; while it can handle some morning sun, harsh afternoon rays may scorch the foliage. It performs best in well-draining, organically rich soil that stays consistently moist but never waterlogged. High humidity is a critical factor for maintaining lush leaf margins, so a sheltered location away from drying winds is ideal. During the peak growing season, regular applications of a balanced liquid fertilizer will support its rapid expansion. In cooler climates, it should be moved indoors or heavily mulched before the first frost to protect its tuberous root system.
