BURGUNDY GLOW BUGLEWEED

Ajuga reptans 'Burgundy Glow' is one of the most popular variegated varieties of Bugleweed, highly prized for its ever-changing, multicolored foliage. The rounded leaves feature a stunning tri-color blend of creamy white, forest green, and rose-burgundy. As the seasons shift or light levels change, the colors transition; new growth often emerges with bright pink tones, eventually maturing into a sophisticated mix that provides a luminous, tapestry-like effect on the garden floor. This variety typically reaches a height of 3 to 6 inches, forming a dense and colorful mat.

In mid-to-late spring, 'Burgundy Glow' is topped with 6-inch spikes of bright blue flowers. This provides a vivid contrast against the pink and cream tones of the leaves and is a big draw for pollinators. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. While it can grow in deeper shade, the burgundy and pink highlights are most vibrant when the plant receives filtered sunlight. It is an excellent, low-maintenance choice for brightening up path edges, rock gardens, or for use as a vibrant filler in mixed containers.

Planting Tips

To help Ajuga settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, well-draining soil with an exposure of partial shade to full shade - many varieties often perform best with some protection from intense afternoon sun. While Ajuga is a vigorous, mat-forming spreader, it requires good air circulation; avoid planting in low-lying areas where water pools, as this can lead to crown rot. Water regularly to establish, though it is moderately drought-tolerant once mature.
