Picea abies 'Little Gem' is commonly referred to as Little Gem Norway Spruce. It is a very popular dwarf conifer that is easy to care for and slow growing. It grows as a dense, flat, globose mound with short, layered branches. New growth needles are light green turning dark green with age. It is a sport of Picea abies 'Nidiformis' (Bird's Nest Spruce).
The Little Gem Norway Spruce is very low maintenance and enjoys full sun in average, evenly moist, acidic, sandy, well-drained soils. Useful in rock gardens or as a small specimen plant.
