Buxus microphylla var. japonica 'Winter Gem' is commonly referred to as Winter Gem Boxwood. It is a Korean boxwood and one of the hardiest of the small-leaf boxwoods. It features a rounded, densely branched, compact habit. New foliage emerges lime-green and matures to a deep, glossy green. Foliage may tint bronze in the winter sun.
Winter Gem Boxwood is deer resistant and a fast grower. It thrives in full to part sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal planted as a shrub borders or in foundation plantings. Also makes a nice bonsai.
