GROWER NOTES: >
Viburnum x burkwoodii 'Mohawk' is commonly referred to as Mohawk Viburnum. It is a densely-branched, upright, multi-stemmed semi-evergreen shrub that is a backcross of Viburnum x burkwoodii to Viburnum carlesii. It is more compact than V. burkwoodii, has dark red flower buds that open to very fragrant white flower clusters. Flowers are followed by red berries that ripen black in late summer. Glossy, dark green leaves turn a showy orange to dark burgundy in fall.
Mohawk Viburnum is deer resistant and thrives in full sun to partial shade in fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is tolerant to drought once established and can thrive in city environments. This is a great selection for hedge or border plantings. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.
